Melos Choir and Period Instruments present: Early Music and Dance from the Middle-East to France, 9th-19th centuries. The show will feature guests, Alpharabius; traditional Egyptian dancer, Nada El Masriya; and Baroque dancer Edgar Tumak.
Take a historic tour of the Mediterranean, as your hear traditional Arabic folk tunes; Byzantine chant; 12th c. chant of Eastern Abbess, Kassia; western music from the 9th-16thc, influenced by the musical practices of Islam.
Baroque musical representations by Rameau and Purcell of the middle-east along with period dance, are contrasted with ancient Egyptian music and traditional belly dance.
You will hear rare period instruments like Arabic qanun and oud; as well as medieval lute, winds, gittern, vielle and Baroque harpsichord with strings.
