HYDRA: The Spirit of Water

Prepare to immerse yourself in a groundbreaking multi-arts experience at the stunning Kingston Mills. This spring, the Mills will play host to a unique art exhibition titled “HYDRA: The Spirit of Water.” This innovative showcase encourages a fusion of disciplines, marrying visual art, performance art, and community art in a breathtaking, floating display.

Unlike any exhibition before it, HYDRA urges visitors to engage with the spirit of water, to recognize its vital essence, and honor it through the lens of art. The exhibition will consist of a series of floating art pieces, each narrating a story through visual and performing arts. It’s a captivating blend of art, culture, and community, and you won’t want to miss it.

HYDRA seeks to build on the legacy of previous Calliope shows, which spurred explorations of human relationships with the land and the changing seasons. This year, the focus turns to water, a vital, life-giving element, often overlooked in its everyday ubiquity.

HYDRA: The Spirit of Water is more than an art exhibition – it’s a cavalcade of contemporary artworks, immersive visualizations, and atmospheric soundscapes that reorient our perspectives towards water. It’s a platform for artists and the community to engage in a dialogue about the importance of water, reflected in the fluidity of the artwork and performances on display.

But the magic of HYDRA lies not only in the art pieces themselves. Its true charm resides in its transformative ability, in the way it morphs a familiar space into something new and extraordinary. As visitors wander through the floating installations, their interactions with the space and each other become part of the art itself. This inclusivity and accessibility are at the heart of HYDRA’s ethos, turning passive observers into active participants in this dynamic art narrative.

Don’t miss this chance to be part of an enchanting, communal art experience. It’s time to dive into the world of HYDRA: The Spirit of Water, and uncover the profound tales it tells about our relationships with this crucial life-sustaining element. Come along and participate in this unique gathering at Kingston Mills, where art, community, and the spirit of water flow together in perfect harmony. Experience the beauty, the story, and the movement at HYDRA.

The enchanting evening of art and community begins at 7 pm. Please note, for health and safety reasons, the event site will not be accessible to the public before 5:30 pm. We kindly ask that attendees do not arrive before 6 pm, if possible, to ensure the site is well-prepared to welcome you.

For those travelling by car, parking will be permitted along the edge of Kingston Mills Road. Be aware that this may require a short walk, depending on your arrival time. To help make your journey smoother, traffic officers will be on-site to guide you. We strongly encourage carpooling to minimize environmental impact and to make the most out of the available parking.

For your convenience, we will also be operating a trolley/shuttle service from the Park and Ride on Montreal Street at the 401. This service will run between 6 pm and 7 pm, and is a great option for those visiting from out of town, or for those who prefer not to walk down Kingston Mills Road. Carpooling to this location is also encouraged.

It’s important to note that the small parking lot on-site at the lock station will be reserved for those requiring accessibility parking, as well as for artists, safety/security personnel, and crew members.

We’re committed to ensuring that “Hydra: The Spirit of Water” is an unforgettable and seamless experience for all attendees. We look forward to welcoming you to this incredible, floating art extravaganza at Kingston Mills.
