The Grey Fox Fundraising Screening

The Grey Fox Fundraising Screening for Canada’s Penitentiary Museum

Enjoy an evening of Canadian film, local history and community support when the Friends of the Penitentiary Museum present a special fundraising screening of The Grey Fox at The Screening Room in downtown Kingston.

Taking place Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the fundraiser will support the Friends of the Penitentiary Museum, the non-profit organization that assists Canada’s Penitentiary Museum. Through its work, the organization helps preserve and share stories connected to the history of Canada’s federal correctional system.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m., giving guests time to arrive, find their seats and explore a silent auction before the evening’s formal program begins. The auction will feature prizes generously donated by businesses from throughout the Kingston community. Every bid will offer another way to support the museum while providing participants with a chance to take home something special.

The main program begins at 6:00 p.m. with two brief presentations from the museum’s curator and curatorial assistant. These talks will provide guests with an opportunity to hear directly from members of the museum team and learn more about their work before the featured film begins.

Following the presentations, the audience will enjoy a screening of The Grey Fox. The acclaimed Canadian film tells the story of Bill Miner, the outlaw widely known as “The Gentleman Bandit.” Combining Canadian history with a memorable cinematic story, the film makes an ideal centrepiece for an evening supporting an institution dedicated to preserving the country’s penitentiary history.

As an additional thank-you, every person attending the fundraiser will receive a small surprise. Between the silent auction, museum presentations, Canadian film and special gift, the evening offers several ways to participate and show support.

Film lovers, history enthusiasts and supporters of Kingston’s museums are invited to attend. Come early to browse the auction, learn more about Canada’s Penitentiary Museum and enjoy a celebrated Canadian film on the big screen—all while contributing to a local non-profit organization.
