Sea to Space: A Science Literacy Week Celebration

Sea to Space: A Science Literacy Week Celebration

Explore the Mysteries of Earth and the Cosmos

Join us on Saturday, October 11, 2025, for a captivating journey from sea to space as part of Science Literacy Week in Kingston! This special event brings together two cutting-edge Canadian research institutions The Arthur B. McDonald Canadian Astroparticle Physics Research Institute and the Carbon to Metal Coating Institute (CMCI) to explore how Canadian scientists are tackling the challenges of modern industry and technology while unlocking the secrets of the Universe.

The evening kicks off with a fascinating public lecture by Prof. Nahee Park titled *”Probing the Extreme Environments in Our Universe through the Great Ice Sheet at the South Pole”*. Learn how researchers use the vast Antarctic ice sheet as a window into the most mysterious forces and phenomena in the cosmos, from neutrinos to black holes.

Following the talk, you’ll get a chance to:

Tour the Queen’s Observatory and view planets and celestial objects through professional telescopes.
Explore the Visitors Center of the McDonald Institute and gain insight into Canada’s most advanced astroparticle physics facility.
Step inside the research labs of the CMCI and see how chemistry and engineering intersect to address real-world industrial challenges.

This event is perfect for curious minds of all ages and anyone interested in science, space, and our planet’s natural environments.
