Leanne Betasamosake Simpson Live in Kingston

On Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 7:30 PM, The Broom Factory welcomes Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, one of the most powerful and influential Indigenous voices in Canada today.
A Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg musician, writer, and academic, Simpson has inspired audiences around the world with her unflinching storytelling, poetic prose, and evocative music. She is the author of eight acclaimed books, including A Short History of the Blockade and Noopiming: The Cure for White Ladies, which was shortlisted for both the Governor General’s Literary Award for Fiction and the Dublin Literary Prize. Her collaboration with Robyn Maynard, Rehearsals for Living, became a national bestseller and was shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award for Non-Fiction.
Leanne is also an accomplished musician. Her 2021 album Theory of Ice was shortlisted for the Polaris Prize and earned her the Prism Prize’s Willie Dunn Award. Her latest release, Theory of Water (2025), has already become a national bestseller, cementing her reputation as an artist whose voice resonates across literature, music, and activism.
Beyond her artistry, Leanne brings more than twenty years of experience in Indigenous land-based education and has lectured internationally. A proud member of Alderville First Nation, her work continues to amplify Indigenous knowledge, resistance, and resilience.
This evening of music and reflection will also feature special musical guest Boyhood, adding another layer of creativity and depth to this unforgettable event.
