Kaia Kater Live

On May 24th, the Kingston Broom Factory will host an evening with Kaia Kater, a prodigious talent whose unique blend of music has captivated audiences from NPR’s Tiny Desk to Rolling Stone. Born in Montreal to Grenadian-Canadian heritage, Kaia Kater’s music is an eloquent reflection of her rich cultural background, weaving together elements from Quebec, the Caribbean, and Appalachia. Her artful banjo playing and deep, jazz-infused vocals draw listeners into a world that transcends traditional musical boundaries. Kaia’s journey through music has been marked by her robust connection to Canadian folk traditions, her formative years absorbing Appalachian sounds in West Virginia, and her poignant explorations of her father’s Grenadian roots.

Kaia’s upcoming album, “Strange Medicine,” set to release in May 2024, showcases her evolution as an artist and a storyteller. Co-producing with Joe Grass, Kaia expands her sound with cinematic arrangements and notable collaborations with artists like Taj Mahal, Allison Russell, and Aoife O’Donovan. This new work is not only a celebration of the resilience and power of women and oppressed people throughout history but also a personal reflection on her own life experiences. “Strange Medicine” promises to be an intimate, empowering, and transformative album, highlighting Kater’s continued growth and her unyielding pursuit of musical and personal depth. Don’t miss the chance to experience this remarkable artist live, as she brings the essence of her new album and her diverse influences to the stage at the Kingston Broom Factory.
