Capella Regalis Choirs

Two extraordinary evenings of world-class choral music are coming to Kingston as Capella Regalis Choirs visits the city as part of its Quebec–Ontario tour. Hosted at the historic St George’s Cathedral, these performances promise a rich and immersive musical experience that spans centuries of tradition and innovation.

Led by Artistic Directors Nick Halley and Vanessa Halley, and joined by GRAMMY Award–winning organist and composer Paul Halley, Capella Regalis Choirs is internationally celebrated for its dedication to the English choral tradition. With a unique ensemble of men, boys, and girls, the choir delivers performances that are both historically informed and vibrantly contemporary.

Audiences in Kingston will have the opportunity to experience two distinct programs:

On Wednesday, May 28 at 7:00 PM, the Cathedral will host a Choral Evensong service, offered free to the public. This one-hour service blends music and reflection, featuring works for Pentecost by renowned English composers including William Harris, Herbert Howells, and Thomas Tallis. The evening will also include Paul Halley’s evocative setting of Jesu, the Very Thought of Thee, performed within the Cathedral’s stunning acoustic space.

On Thursday, May 29 at 7:00 PM, the ensemble returns for a ticketed concert titled Sea Songs & Sacred Anthems. This dynamic program blends sacred choral works with imaginative arrangements of sea shanties and traditional folk songs, inspired by the group’s latest album Songs of the Sea. Featuring choir, organ, piano, and percussion, the concert moves seamlessly from Gregorian chant to Maritime-inspired music, creating a powerful and engaging musical journey.

Founded in Nova Scotia, Capella Regalis Choirs is one of Canada’s leading choral organizations, known for its commitment to musical excellence, education, and accessibility. Their performances have captivated audiences across the country and beyond, combining technical precision with emotional depth and storytelling.

Set within one of Kingston’s most iconic heritage spaces, these performances offer a rare opportunity to experience internationally acclaimed choral music in an intimate and inspiring setting.
