Amate Bark Painting with Susana Beitman

Dive into the vibrant world of Amate Bark Painting with Susana Beitman at the Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning on May 30th, from 5 PM to 7 PM. This unique workshop is part of the Cultural Creativity Series, designed to enrich understanding through the exploration of diverse artistic traditions. Amate bark painting, a revered art form rooted in the ancient civilizations of the Maya and Nahua peoples, offers more than just aesthetic beauty; it is a portal into the rich histories and cultural narratives of Mexico. Participants will not only learn about the historical significance of amate paper but will also engage hands-on with traditional techniques to create their own pieces using this timeless medium.

Susana Beitman, an experienced educator and artist with deep ties to Mexico, leads this workshop. Born in Mexico City and now a vibrant part of Kingston’s cultural scene, Susana brings a wealth of knowledge from her extensive background in Spanish Language and Literature, as well as her firsthand experiences with indigenous Mexican art forms. This workshop is ideal for anyone aged 16 and up, from beginners to seasoned artists, looking to expand their creative skills and cultural knowledge. Join us at the Tett Centre to experience a blend of art, history, and cultural immersion, all while creating a piece of art that connects you to ancient traditions and contemporary artistic expressions.
