Your Mark, Echoing From Within

What if creativity isn’t something you have to learn?

What if it’s already there, waiting to be awakened?

This June, artists, creators, and curious minds are invited to experience Your Mark, Echoing From Within, a unique mixed-media art workshop that blends self-expression, contemporary art techniques, and one of the world’s oldest visual traditions into a deeply personal creative journey.

Taking place at Kingston’s Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning, this immersive hands-on workshop explores the idea that every person carries a unique creative voice. Through experimentation, reflection, and artistic play, participants will discover a visual mark that feels distinctly their own and then transform it into a layered work of art.

The experience begins with expressive mark-making inspired by the flowing forms of Arabic calligraphy. Using traditional bamboo pens and accessible techniques, participants will explore gesture, movement, and abstraction while uncovering a shape, stroke, or symbol that resonates personally.

From there, the workshop unfolds through a series of creative layers:

✍️ Contemporary Arabic Calligraphy
Explore the foundations of one of the world’s oldest and most beautiful visual art forms using traditional tools and techniques.

🎨 Abstract Ink Backgrounds
Experiment with colour, texture, and movement to create vibrant, expressive surfaces filled with energy and emotion.

🖨️ Linocut Printing
Transform your personal mark into a print block and discover how repetition, rhythm, and pattern can build visual storytelling.

🔡 Three-Dimensional Elements
Create dimensional forms that float, cast shadows, and add movement and depth to your finished artwork.

Along the way, participants will discover how colour, composition, white space, repetition, and intuition can transform a single mark into a meaningful visual statement.

No previous artistic experience is required. This workshop is designed for anyone interested in creativity, self-expression, and exploring new artistic techniques in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Each participant will leave with a completed mixed-media artwork created on handmade paper, along with new skills, fresh inspiration, and a deeper connection to their own creative process.
