Very Heaven at Domino Theatre
A deeply moving story of memory, grief, and family comes to the stage this June as Very Heaven arrives at Domino Theatre in a powerful new production directed by Katie Flower-Smith.
Written by acclaimed Canadian playwright Ann Lambert, Very Heaven is an emotionally rich and sharply observed drama that explores the fragile terrain of family relationships and the lasting impact of the past. Set in a country home in Quebec, the story follows three sisters, Harriet, Juliet, and Lee, as they reunite after years of distance to scatter their mother’s ashes.
What begins as a solemn gathering slowly unravels into something far more complicated.
As old tensions resurface and long-buried memories come back to life, the sisters are forced to confront the versions of their childhood they each carry differently. Through intimate conversations, moments of humour, emotional confrontation, and quiet vulnerability, Very Heaven examines how grief can both divide and reconnect us.
The play’s strength lies in its honesty. Its dialogue feels lived-in and authentic, capturing the complicated rhythms of sibling relationships and the emotional weight of returning to a place filled with unresolved history. Audiences can expect a performance that is thoughtful, intimate, and deeply human, balancing emotional depth with moments of wit and tenderness.
Presented at Kingston’s beloved Domino Theatre, this production offers local theatre audiences the opportunity to experience a contemporary Canadian work that speaks to universal experiences of loss, reconciliation, and family connection.
