Transgender Day of Visibility Community Gathering & Fundraiser
On March 31 from 5:30–7:30 PM, The Spire opens its doors for a meaningful evening celebrating Transgender Day of Visibility — a time to honour the lives, resilience, and contributions of transgender, nonbinary, and gender diverse people in our community.
This gathering is about visibility, yes — but also about connection, solidarity, and action.
Volunteers have been working hard to create a welcoming space for community to come together, featuring speakers, music, refreshments, snacks, giveaways, and more. The evening will also raise funds in support of TransFamily Kingston (TFam), a grassroots, unfunded community group that relies entirely on donations and volunteers.
Since 2012, TransFamily Kingston has provided peer support and connection for transgender, nonbinary, and gender diverse individuals — as well as their loved ones — across the Kingston/Katarokwi region. TFam offers multiple monthly meetings, online support spaces, resource navigation, assistance with name changes and healthcare advocacy, access to gender-affirming gear, accompaniment to appointments, group event participation, and more. It is not a professionally run service, but a community-built network of care and shared lived experience.
Members are active across Kingston’s cultural landscape, participating in Pride Weekend, The Reelout Film Festival, The Skeleton Park Festival, Queer Prom, Transgender Day of Remembrance, and the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. They also serve as educators and speakers, helping local organizations better understand and support gender diverse communities.
This evening is an opportunity to show up, listen, learn, and stand alongside neighbours building safer, more inclusive spaces.
