An Evening of Art, Film, and Community Celebrating Birth and Womanhood Comes to The Broom Factory

Some conversations deserve more space. They deserve to be explored through art, shared through lived experiences, and celebrated within a supportive community. On Thursday, August 27, The Broom Factory will host a unique evening that brings together film, live performance, music, and meaningful conversation with an event centred on birth, creativity, and womanhood.
Running from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, the evening is built around a screening of To Labour, with Love, a moving documentary that explores the deeply personal experience of childbirth through authentic stories and perspectives. Following the film, audiences will have the opportunity to participate in an intimate Q&A session with director Kaycee Leigh and participants featured in the documentary, offering insight into the filmmaking process and the powerful conversations that inspired the project.
The event is designed to foster thoughtful dialogue around one of life’s most universal experiences while creating a welcoming environment where people can connect, listen, and learn from one another. Whether you’re a parent, an expectant parent, a birth worker, an artist, or simply someone interested in meaningful storytelling, this promises to be an evening of reflection and community.
Adding to the experience are live performances from acclaimed local artists. Singer-songwriter Mellow Lily will bring her heartfelt original music to the stage, while Winnie Seaby and Pippa Seaby from the Kingston School of Dance will present a special dance performance that complements the evening’s themes of connection, resilience, and human experience.
Guests are invited to mingle before and after the program while enjoying complimentary refreshments and connecting with others in the Kingston community. Throughout the evening, attendees can also participate in a silent auction featuring generous contributions from local businesses, including Cher Mere, Improbable Escapes, Delta Hotels, and other community partners. Door prizes will be awarded, adding another fun element to an already memorable evening.
