National Youth Orchestra of Canada

Experience the extraordinary talent and passion of Canada’s next generation of classical musicians as the National Youth Orchestra of Canada returns to Kingston for an unforgettable evening of world-class performance at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts on Thursday, July 23 at 7:30 PM.

For more than six decades, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada has been recognized as one of the country’s premier training grounds for emerging orchestral musicians. Bringing together exceptional young performers from coast to coast, the orchestra provides audiences with the rare opportunity to witness rising stars before they launch careers on some of the world’s most prestigious stages.

Under the direction of acclaimed conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, this year’s program showcases a dynamic and emotionally powerful collection of works spanning multiple eras and styles.

The evening opens with Masquerade, a vibrant and energetic composition by contemporary composer Anna Clyne. Audiences will also experience the haunting beauty of D’un soir triste, one of the most celebrated works by pioneering French composer Lili Boulanger.

A highlight of the evening will be Sabina Sandvoss, recipient of the 2026 Canada Council for the Arts Michael Measures Prize, performing Cello Concerto in E minor by Edward Elgar, one of the most beloved and emotionally profound works in the cello repertoire.

The concert concludes with the monumental Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major by Sergei Prokofiev, a sweeping masterpiece celebrated for its power, optimism, and dramatic orchestral brilliance.

Whether you are a lifelong classical music enthusiast or new to orchestral performance, this concert offers a rare chance to experience exceptional musicianship, inspiring artistry, and the future of Canadian classical music in one remarkable evening.
