Isabel Voices: The Journey
Some concerts entertain. Others carry you somewhere. The Journey is a moving, immersive musical experience that invites audiences to walk through stories of healing, resilience, and light, guided by the power of voice and strings.
Presented in the luminous setting of the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, this afternoon performance weaves together dramatic oratorio and contemporary choral storytelling to explore urgent ecological, emotional, and human themes. At its heart is a profound sense of hope, not as something fragile, but as something earned, resilient, and deeply human.
The program is anchored by “The Wound in the Water” by Kim André Arnesen, a dramatic and evocative work for voice and strings that reflects on humanity’s relationship with the natural world and the emotional consequences of neglect, loss, and responsibility. Arnesen’s music is expansive and cinematic, drawing listeners into a soundscape that feels both intimate and urgent.
Also featured is “The Lighthouse Keeper” by Jake Runestad, a deeply expressive piece that explores grief, memory, and the quiet strength required to keep going when the light feels distant. Rounding out the program is a luminous choral arrangement of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” by Dolly Parton, arranged by Craig Hella Johnson, offering a moment of warmth, renewal, and gentle optimism.
Together, these works form a musical arc that acknowledges wounds while pointing unmistakably toward healing. Whether experienced live in the hall or via livestream, The Journey promises an afternoon of reflection, emotional depth, and shared humanity.
