Harvest Moon

Celebrate the Harvest Moon with Acclaimed Haudenosaunee Artist David R. Maracle
As the autumn harvest season unfolds and the full moon rises over Kingston, audiences are invited to experience an evening of music, culture, and gratitude with one of Canada’s most celebrated Indigenous artists. On Friday, October 2, the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts welcomes David R. Maracle for a special Harvest Moon Celebration, an inspiring performance that honours the enduring traditions of Indigenous Peoples through music and storytelling.
A member of the Bear Clan of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (Kenhtè:ke Kanyen’kehá:ka), David R. Maracle has spent decades sharing Haudenosaunee culture through his extraordinary artistic talents. A gifted multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and master stone sculptor, Maracle has built an international reputation by blending ancestral teachings with contemporary musical expression, creating performances that are both deeply rooted in tradition and powerfully relevant today.
Since beginning his artistic journey in 1985, Maracle has earned widespread recognition for his contributions to Indigenous music and culture. His accomplishments include multiple Canadian Indigenous Music Awards, two RIAA Gold Records, and performances on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including the 2000 Olympic Games and a performance for Queen Elizabeth II. His work continues to inspire audiences by celebrating Indigenous identity while building bridges through music, art, and cultural understanding.
The Harvest Moon Celebration is much more than a concert. It is an opportunity to reflect on themes of gratitude, renewal, and our relationship with the natural world. Harvest has long been a time of thanksgiving in Indigenous cultures, marking the changing of the seasons and recognizing the gifts of the land. Through music, storytelling, and traditional teachings, Maracle invites audiences to experience these enduring values in an evening that is both moving and uplifting.
Known for performing on a variety of traditional and contemporary instruments, Maracle creates rich musical landscapes that transport listeners while sharing stories that connect past and present. His performances offer moments of quiet reflection alongside joyful celebration, making each concert a deeply personal and memorable experience.
Held in the intimate Principal Emerita Karen Hitchcock Recital Hall at the Isabel Bader Centre, this performance provides the perfect setting to experience the warmth, artistry, and cultural significance of Maracle’s music up close.
Whether you’re already familiar with Indigenous music or looking to experience it for the first time, the Harvest Moon Celebration offers a meaningful evening that celebrates culture, community, and the timeless power of music to bring people together.
