George Orwell’s Animal Farm
Revolution begins with hope. It ends with power.
This March, the Dan School of Drama and Music presents the world premiere of a new adaptation of Animal Farm, reimagined by Dr. Craig Walker.
Orwell’s classic political allegory follows a group of farm animals who overthrow their human owner in pursuit of equality, freedom, and self-governance. What begins as a bold vision of justice slowly unravels as leadership consolidates, memory is manipulated, and language becomes a tool of control. The ideals that once united the animals are steadily corrupted, exposing how power can distort even the most righteous intentions.
In this new stage adaptation, Dr. Walker remains faithful to the clarity and urgency of Orwell’s original work while amplifying its theatrical force. The production foregrounds the enduring relevance of Animal Farm — a story that continues to resonate in an era shaped by propaganda, shifting truths, and fragile democratic institutions.
Directed by Craig Walker and performed by a dynamic ensemble of student actors — including Amy McCullock, Artemus Saunders, Ben Kuzminski-Parry, Brianna Rodrigues, Eva Joudrey, Hayden Crompton, Jacob Wolstenholm, Jago Garrett, Kai Ileleji, Kate Popiel, Olivia Humphries, Pierce Lindsay, Renee Foley, Ryan Larkin, Ricky Yankovich, Sloane Climie, Sophie Wilson, Tara Martin, Zoe Compson, and Henry Hamilton — this production brings physicality, urgency, and emotional intensity to the stage.
Live musicians Clare Mak and Jan Le Clair deepen the atmosphere, underscoring the tension and momentum of a revolution that slips, step by step, into tyranny.
This is not just a classic revived. It is a warning renewed.
