Aquaculture: Farming the Waters

This summer, the Great Lakes Museum invites visitors to look beneath the surface with Aquaculture: Farming the Waters, a fascinating new interactive exhibit exploring one of Canada’s most important and often overlooked industries.

Running from June 4 through October 18, 2026, this engaging temporary exhibition takes visitors on a journey into the world of aquaculture, the practice of farming fish, shellfish, and other aquatic organisms. Through hands-on activities, multimedia displays, and interactive experiences, guests of all ages will discover how Canadians sustainably produce food from our lakes, rivers, and coastal waters.

Perfect for families, students, curious minds, and anyone interested in science, food, sustainability, or the environment, the exhibit explores the challenges, innovations, and future of farming beneath the water’s surface. Visitors will gain a deeper understanding of where some of our food comes from and how aquaculture plays an increasingly important role in feeding communities across Canada and around the world.
