Anishinaabemowin Games Night

Discover the Joy of Language Through Play: Family Anishinaabemowin Games Night
The Kingston Native Centre and Languages Nest (KNCLN) is excited to host an enriching and fun-filled Family Anishinaabemowin Games Night, open to the public. This special event, featuring the innovative games developed by Tony Drews, founder of Nashke Native Games, promises a night of learning, laughter, and cultural immersion.

Event Details:

Date: Friday, December 8th, 2023
Time: 5-8pm
Location: KNCLN, 610 Montreal St.
Schedule:
5-6pm: A shared meal
6-8pm: An evening of Anishinaabemowin games
A Unique Educational Experience:

Tony Drews will bring the magic of Anishinaabemowin, the Ojibwe language, to life through engaging games designed for all ages. The event is a fantastic opportunity for families to bond over shared learning experiences and for individuals to deepen their understanding of the Ojibwe language and culture.

Featured Games Include:

Mii Gwech: This exciting card game takes players back to the fur trade era, offering insights into Ojibwe language and culture during that time. Suitable for playing in English, Ojibwe, or both, Mii Gwech is an excellent tool for language learners, incorporating memory tile matching games and children’s puzzles for a comprehensive learning experience.
Bineshiiyag Game Series: A delightful game focusing on our winged relatives, Bineshiiyag is akin to Go Fish and is perfect for younger players. The game includes memory tile matching and puzzles, making it an ideal family activity that entertains while educating.
Reimagined Traditional Games:

In addition to these modern creations, participants will also have the chance to engage with reimagined traditional games. These games are a nod to the centuries-old cultural practices of the Ojibwe people, serving as an introduction to traditional games and a tool for teaching and learning the language.
