A Fantastical March Break

Unicorns. Dragons. Mermaids. Medicine.

This March Break, imagination takes centre stage at the Canadian Museum of Health Care with A Fantastical Medical Bestiary — a magical new temporary exhibit where mythology and medical history collide in the most curious ways.

From March 16 to March 20, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, families are invited to step into a world where ancient beliefs about the natural world shaped early ideas about health and healing. Discover how fantastical creatures once blurred the line between science and story, and explore how myth influenced medicine in surprising ways.

Visitors will enjoy an exclusive first look at the museum’s newly renovated Children’s Gallery, featuring brand-new hands-on interactives designed especially for young explorers. Build your own flying dragon, sparkling unicorn, or enchanting mermaid — then mix a mythological potion inspired by your creation. It’s creativity, curiosity, and history all in one unforgettable experience.

As part of March of the Museums, admission is free for one week only, making this the perfect family outing during March Break.

On Monday, March 16 at 1:00 PM, the museum is proud to welcome Daryn Lehoux, Head of the Department of Classics & Archaeology at Queen’s University, for a fascinating presentation exploring ancient understandings of the natural world and how myth and medicine once intertwined.

This is your chance to wander through a bestiary of wonder and discover how imagination shaped the early history of health care.
