Parents/caregivers, teachers, students and professionals are welcome to attend virtually. We will address the main literacy challenges facing children (beginning in Grade 1) who have learning disabilities and/or reading difficulties, and the adults who support them.

Strategies for building children’s literacy skills in schools and at home will be presented, including the Science of Reading and the need to improve how we teach children to read. Local sessions include presentations from school boards in Kingston, ON (ALCDSB & LDSB) and a panel discussion on literacy, including experts on the Science of Reading, parents and school board representatives (ALCDSB and LDSB).

Speak Up for Ability is an online forum for parents/caregivers, educators, students and community service providers who work together to ensure the best opportunities for students with learning disabilities and attention issues.

By the end of this free forum, it is expected that participants will be able to collaborate in finding the best solutions to overcome challenges for students who have learning disabilities, apply knowledge and strategies to develop children’s literacy skills, and better understand how to navigate the current educational climate together.
